In this Issue: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transexual
By Tintin
Growing up, we're all expected, if we're women, to have a good job, find a man, marry and have babies. Inversely, the same is expected of our men. But what happens when you grow up and find yourself attracted to people of the same gender? The world suddenly doesn't seem to smile as benignly and a lot of these "Queer" folks are forced to repress their true selves. But a repressed soul cannot blossom. The individuals and stories featured in our Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transexual (GLBT) Issue shows us what a blossoming soul can do. From [a href=php-article.php?index=279]Noel Alumit's stirring novels[/A], to [a href=php-article.php?index=280]Allan Brocka's comedy films[/A], they gift us with their art. They can also be playwrights, like [a href=php-article.php?index=286]Jenesha De Rivera[/A], and be a productive, even an [a href=php-article.php?index=283]essential part of our communities[/A]. Our [a href=http://www.pinoyqueer.com]Site of the Month[/A] features even more Filipinos that have excelled in different vocations, such as lawyers and priesthood. The individuals featured in this issue, whom so many want to cast aside, can love like anybody else, and many of them [a href=php-article.php?index=284]yearn for the same things[/A]. To [a href=php-article.php?index=289]celebrate the sanctity of marriage[/A], and to have long-lasting, trusting relationships. Some of our stories feature exactly to what lengths and to what [a href=php-article.php?index=281]different shores[/A], people will go to to be able to [a href=php-article.php?index=290]live and love freely[/A]. We tackle topics from the somber, such as the heartbreak of [a href=php-article.php?index=294]"coming out" to a Filipino and staunchly Catholic parent[/A], to the lighthearted in our NEXT T.I.P. guide that will have you [a href=php-article.php?index=288]deciphering the bakla talk[/A] flourishing in the Philippines in no time. And for readers who may wish to join their same-sex partners in joyful and legal matrimony, we also include a [a href=php-article.php?index=285]guide to countries that recognize same-sex marriages[/A]. At the end of the day, all of these individuals are like us, albeit with a twist. They love, laugh, they are human, they have heart. They force us to look at our pride and prejudices and hopefully, cast them aside.
